Five Places to Visit in Cape Town

Cape Town is the second largest city on South Africa, located in the southwest corner of the country and is near the Cape of Good Hope and it is also known as The Mother City in South Africa. There are a lot of things to do and places to see in the city that you will enjoy and fall in love with its natural sceneries, beautiful buildings, and a lot of exotic things right around the corner. Let’s get started with the list shall we?

1. Castle of Good Hope –The castle is located at the bottom of Buitenkant Street and it is one of the oldest surviving colonial buildings in South Africa and it is also home to the Military Museum. A good place to visit if you want to enjoy art and old furniture collections from the Dutch colonial settlement and British occupation from around the seventeenth and nineteenth century.

2. Table Mountain – A very beautiful scene to see, the Table Mountain is a flat-topped mountain that has magnificent and breath-taking views of the City of Cape Town, Lions Head and Devils Peak. If you’re planning to take a hike on the mountain you might want to hire a guide if you’re inexperienced at climbing mountains or you can take the easy way and take a cable car up and once up you’ll see that it is worth the climb.

3. Bo-Kaap – Formerly known as Malay Quarters the Bo-Kaap is an area in Cape Town located in southwest of downtown. The neighborhood is historically inhabited by mainly Muslim descendants from Southeast Asia.

4. Robben Island – An island located just off the coast of Cape Town, Robben Island was used for the isolation of mainly political prisoners since the end of the 17th century. You can take a tour on the island that consists of a bus taking you around the island where you can see African penguins and learn more about the history of the island.

5. Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens – A must visit if you are a nature and plant lover, located in Rhodes Drive and open daily from 8am to 6pm. The garden has various plants and flowers from all the regions of South Africa.The plants and flowers vary from season to season new plants, different kinds of birds and a lot more, if you visit the gardens you can have a picnic there and enjoy the scenery of the gardens.
